It occurred to me this week that many people are largely unaware of the details of our therapeutic riding program. Due to privacy concerns, we are not able to post the photos of quite a few of our riders.
Behind every photo that I do share of a student with diverse abilities (and those that I don’t), there is a story of courage, determination, bravery and strength!
Currently, we support thirteen riders who experience life through the lens of a unique challenge. Some of the diagnoses include Autism Spectrum Disorder, Seizure Disorder, Downs Syndrome, Developmental Delay, ADHD, Anxiety, Prader Willi Syndrome, Cerebral Palsy, Anxiety, Depression and more. There is always a lengthy wait list and unfortunately we cannot meet the demand. However, for our thirteen students, we strive to make a difference every time they make the effort to show up.
As a CanTRA-certified instructor, I am honored to partner with a host of other professionals such as psychologists, education assistants, care aides, youth probation officers, ministry personnel, and physicians to ensure success for each of our riders. We are a BC Service Provider and therefore many of our students are able to access funding through various programs such as the Autism Funding Unit and the At Home Therapy program.
It goes without saying that this program could not operate without the hard work and dedication of our faithful volunteers. They brave the elements year round and their commitment both astounds and encourages me!
Parents, guardians and siblings must also be recognized. They tirelessly advocate for their loved ones and give of themselves endlessly. Each one inspires me!
I also want to take the opportunity to thank those who have partnered with us. D & L Equine, Mission Creek Ranch and the owners of these very special horses who have been leased to us. Without your generosity this program could not be a success. Thank you!
